This charter explains exactly what data we collect when you use Zloen, how we use it, and how you stay in full control of every part of your fishing journal.
Core Privacy Philosophy
Zloen is built first and foremost as a space for you to document your fishing journey, not as a tool to harvest your data. Our guiding rules are simple:

Data We Reel In (And Why We Need It)
By default, all of your personal fishing journal data is stored only on your local device. We only collect and store data on our servers if you voluntarily opt in to cloud sync to back up your data or sync across multiple devices.
Data You Actively Provide
Fishing spot records: Photos, location labels, water type tags, and visit notes you add to your spot log. We use this data solely to sync and display your saved spots across your devices if you enable cloud backup.
Catch gallery entries: Catch photos, species tags, weight/length measurements, and personal notes you save to your catch log. This data is never accessed by our team unless you explicitly share it with support for troubleshooting.
Pearl system and in-app purchase data: Your pearl balance, unlocked freshwater fish species, and transaction confirmations for pearl purchases. We use this data to sync your progress across devices and ensure you retain access to content you’ve paid for.
Optional Permission Data
Location permission: Only requested when you tap the "mark current location" button when adding a new fishing spot. We never collect location data in the background, and you can manually enter spot locations if you deny this permission.
Camera and photo library permission: Only requested when you choose to take a new photo or upload an existing photo for a spot or catch entry. We never access photos on your device outside of the ones you actively select to add to your journal.
Anonymous Usage Data (Opt-In By Default)
We collect non-identifiable aggregate data about app usage to improve our fish guide content and app performance, including: which fish species guides are most frequently viewed, which tackle tips are most often saved, and common app crash reports. This data is never linked to your personal journal or account identity, and you can opt out of this collection at any time in your privacy settings.
What We Never Do With Your Data
We never sell, rent, or license your personal fishing data (spot locations, catch records, photos, notes) to any third party for any reason, including advertising or marketing purposes.
We never track your device location in the background, or collect location data without your explicit action to mark a new fishing spot.
We never access any photos, files, or other content on your device outside of the ones you actively choose to upload to your Zloen journal.
We never store full payment card details, billing addresses, or other sensitive payment information on our servers. All in-app purchases are processed directly through your device’s official app store platform, and we only receive a confirmation that your transaction was successful to add pearls to your balance.
We never use your personal journal content to train artificial intelligence models, or repurpose your photos, notes, or spot data for Zloen marketing materials without your explicit written consent.
We never share your personal data with law enforcement or other government entities unless we are legally compelled to do so, and we will notify you of any such request unless we are legally prohibited from doing so.
Keeping Your Tackle Box Secure
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction:
All synced fishing journal content (spot details, catch records, personal notes) is protected with end-to-end encryption when stored on our cloud servers, meaning even Zloen team members cannot access the content of your personal journal unless you explicitly choose to share it with our support team.
All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS 1.3 protocol.
We conduct regular security audits of our systems and update our security practices quarterly to address new threats.
Only a small, dedicated team of security engineers have limited access to server infrastructure, and all access is logged and audited monthly.
Your Full Data Controls
All data management tools are available directly in Zloen’s dedicated privacy settings menu, no account login or external website required:
Export your entire fishing journal (all spot records, catch photos, notes, and unlocked species progress) as a compressed ZIP file, saved directly to your device with no watermarks or restrictions.
Permanently delete all local data on your device, or all synced data on our servers, with a single tap. We do not require you to submit a support request or explain your reason for deletion, and all data is erased from our systems within 30 days of your request.
Toggle cloud sync on or off at any time. When disabled, all data stays exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
Adjust location and camera permission settings directly from the privacy menu, with no impact to core app functionality if you choose to deny these permissions (you can still manually enter spot locations and upload existing photos from your library).
Opt out of anonymous usage data collection at any time, with no impact to your app experience.
Reset your pearl balance and unlocked species progress at any time, either locally or across all synced devices.
